Week 3: Printing with Bubble Wrap and Aluminum Foil
During Week 3, participating students became familiar with the art of printmaking. After discussing Hair Painting No. 29 by Jarrett Key, a demonstration of how to create prints with bubble wrap and tinfoil took place. Students chose their preferred color palette of tempera paint and given a paintbrush, tin foil, bubble wrap, and paper. By applying tempera paint to tinfoil or bubble wrap, placing a piece of paper on top of their painting, and gently using their hands' pressure to transfer their image, students explored textures different materials can create when printing. After creating separate prints with bubble wrap and tin foil, they considered which method they preferred and discussed why they liked that method best. Students were encouraged to keep exploring possible outcomes by creating ghost prints and combining printing methods.
